What is Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE)?
Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) is a minimally-invasive procedure used to alleviate chronic knee pain, often caused by osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that affects the knees.
In GAE, our vascular experts identify and selectively block the genicular arteries that supply blood to the knee joint. By doing so, they reduce inflammation and relieve pain in the affected area, allowing patients to experience improved mobility and a better quality of life.
GAE is an image-guided technique, typically conducted as an outpatient procedure, with a reduced risk of complications compared to traditional surgical interventions.
